Job Summary:

The Teacher Assistant supports the Teacher/Para in managing a classroom of 12-22 elementary (K-5th grade) students.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Implement lesson plans including instructional groups as directed by the teacher.
  2. Assist in planning, developing, and setting up instructional materials for the classroom.
  3. Assist in administering assessments and monitoring progress.
  4. Document students' academic progress through observations and data collection.
  5. Apply and ensure consistent use of behavior and classroom management techniques and data collection.
  6. Perform paraprofessional duties in the absence of the teacher.
  7. Stay informed on best practices in education through professional development and collaborative learning.
  8. Provide caretaking and housekeeping duties as needed, such as changing students and maintaining classroom cleanliness.
  9. Maintain positive interactions and communication with staff and parents.
  10. Attend required training sessions, meetings, and events.
  11. Report parent and student concerns to administration promptly.
  12. Ensure compliance with policies and guidelines from UCP, HIPAA, NAEYC, Department of Education, and other relevant agencies.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • G.E.D. or High School Diploma
  • DCF 45-hour training within 90 days of hire if involved in after-care, summer, or camp activities.
  • CPR/First Aid certification

Minimum Experience:

  • Preferably at least 1 year of experience working with children in an elementary classroom setting.
  • Preferably experience working with students with disabilities.
