Are you passionate about nurturing the growth and development of young minds? Join us at Centro de la Familia, where we create opportunities for children and families through early childhood education programs. We are seeking a Teacher Assistant to be a vital part of our team.

Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Lead Teacher and Education Specialist, you will:

  • Administer developmentally, linguistically, and culturally appropriate early childhood education programs.
  • Meet the individual and holistic needs of infants and toddlers.
  • Collaborate with parents and families, involving them in planning and executing their child's education.
  • Work with staff, parents, and volunteers, including providing meals and snacks for children.
  • Take on Teacher duties in the absence of the Lead Teacher.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the classroom environment, supervise children, and facilitate learning activities indoors and outdoors.
  • Support daily planning aligned with Head Start Standards and CDLF Service Plan.
  • Create a safe and engaging learning environment using space, materials, and routines.
  • Implement activities promoting physical development, curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving.
  • Communicate actively with children, encouraging verbal and nonverbal interactions.
  • Stimulate creative expression through play with sound, rhythm, language, and materials.
  • Foster emotional security, independence, and mutual respect among children.
  • Support behavioral development and create a supportive environment for practicing appropriate behaviors.
  • Use observations and assessments to personalize learning activities and monitor progress.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of toys and surfaces following guidelines.

Parent & Family Involvement

  • Encourage active participation of parents in the program.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families.
  • Communicate with parents in their preferred language.
  • Suggest at-home activities and materials for families.
  • Support bilingual development and cultural heritage.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A current Preschool CDA or a plan to earn one within six months, or an associate/bachelor’s degree in early childhood education/child development within two years of hire.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and Food Handler’s permits.
  • Willingness to work with children with special needs and limited or no English skills.
  • Preferred bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as walking, standing, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds, and engaging in activities typical of preschool care.
