Description
Under the direction of the Education Specialist, the Teacher Assistant Agency Floater supports the daily operation of the Pre-K/First 8 Memphis program by assisting teachers and supervising students within the classroom and other areas. Responsibilities include planning and implementing learning experiences that promote the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of Pre-K students using various teaching strategies. The role also involves relieving staff during breaks and serving as a substitute teacher as needed.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years of successful work in Early Childhood Education preferred.
- Child Development Associate (CDA) Preschool preferred.
- Associate's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Adhere to standards set by Porter-Leath, Department of Human Services, Tennessee Department of Education, CACFP, USDA, and other agencies.
- Provide classroom coverage during staff absences and assume responsibilities as the primary caregiver, including for children with special needs when assigned.
- Communicate promptly with supervisors regarding program issues.
- Collaborate with staff to create a positive, safe, and enriching environment for children, families, and staff.
- Assist in delivering health, nutrition, disability, education, and family support services according to policies.
- Implement daily educational procedures, ensuring activities meet children's immediate needs and providing diverse options.
- Coordinate with nutrition, health, disability, and education staff to meet dietary and care needs.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, meal counts, etc.
- Protect confidentiality of student and personnel records.
- Conduct home visits and parent conferences.
- Assist with ongoing child assessments.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure effective operation.
- Demonstrate flexibility in job functions.
- Arrive promptly and consistently to provide reliable educational services.
- Perform other duties as needed to support the team.
Additional Information
- No supervisory responsibilities.
- Physical demands include standing, sitting, talking, hearing, using hands, and occasionally lifting up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required.
- Maintain a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Work in a non-smoking area.
