Introduction
Anticipated openings for the 2024-2025 School Year. Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a diverse, bilingual community that, in partnership with families, provides an equitable and exemplary education in a nurturing, engaging, and challenging environment to ensure our students achieve personal excellence and become lifelong learners. As such, we are looking for dedicated individuals who can join us in the education of the children at MSD.

Main Purpose of Job
Ensure all children with disabilities have a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living. Implement the transition services outlined within the student’s secondary transition plan, a part of the student’s individualized education plan. Provide Pre-employment transition services.
POSITION DUTIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school degree with a strong background working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
Experience: Experience in developing job sites and providing job placement services. A Maryland driver’s license is required. Lifting may be required when working with students. Requires periods of time standing while mentoring students at worksites. Fluency in American Sign Language and written English are required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of the Deaf culture and Deaf education.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this position may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense. Candidates will need to provide three letters of recommendation with their application.

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits. Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
