Job summary

Old Dominion Job Corps, operated by Eckerd Connects, is seeking an Academic Instructor in Monroe, Virginia. The role involves delivering instruction in a designated subject area in a regular classroom, fostering a positive learning environment, and maintaining classroom discipline to maximize student learning.

The instructor will build rapport with students, leverage curriculum resources, and manage attendance records while supporting program goals and student success.

Qualifications

• Certified to teach in Virginia or reciprocity.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred.
• Must pass a drug screen per policy.
• Employment is contingent upon successful nationwide criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Instruct in a designated subject area within a regular classroom setting.
• Promote a positive classroom atmosphere to maximize student motivation.
• Maintain a high level of discipline to ensure effective learning.
• Establish a strong student/instructor rapport with learners.
• Utilize curriculum resources to support instruction.

Annual Salary: $50,000

• Sign-on Bonus $5,000 (for Virginia certified teachers and subject to payment terms)

Duties & Responsibilities

• The Academic Instructor performs as an instructor in a regular classroom setting, presenting instructions in designated subject area.
• The Academic Instructor promotes a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom setting to insure maximum student motivation.
• Maintains a high degree of discipline within the classroom setting in order to insure maximum learning.
• Establishes a high degree of student/instructor rapport.
• Utilizes all possible curriculum resources available.
• Maintains student personnel folders; records and forwards daily attendance to the Student Records area.

Qualifications

• Certified to teach in state of Virginia or ability to obtain certification through reciprocity.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record preferred.
• Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.

About Our Program

Job Corps is the largest nationwide residential career training program in the country and has been operating for more than 60 years. The program helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24 complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, and assists them with obtaining employment.
