Job description

What You'll Do

• Maintain control of the institution to provide safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas of the facility/institution.
• Ensure the assigned area is clean, safe, and secure.
• Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computers.
• Operate automotive vehicles in perimeter security and transport inmates.
• Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches.
• Complete required reports and serve on committees.
• Prevent escapes or incidents that threaten security.
• When necessary, use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force to detain or secure inmates.
• Earn an additional $0.60 per hour when working 2nd or 3rd shift.

Newly hired Correction Officers will be hired at step 1 ($24.88) and advance to step 2 ($25.61) after six months of employment. Probationary period: 365 days.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D.; valid driver’s license required for transportation positions; commercial driver’s license required for qualified commercial vehicles.
• Applicants must have successfully passed the correction officer assessment within the past 24 months or be current employees who previously completed the assessment.
• Must have situational awareness, teamwork, and self‑control.
