Job summary

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) in San Angelo is seeking an experienced Environmental Investigator to join our Compliance and Enforcement team in the San Angelo Regional Office. You will conduct inspections, investigations, and environmental monitoring while preparing detailed reports and technical papers.

The role involves assisting the public and regulated community with regulatory guidance and collecting environmental samples as part of ongoing compliance activities.

Here's What You'll Be Doing

• Conduct technical inspections, surveys, and follow-up investigations; prepare reports which documents field activities and observed conditions.
• Conduct environmental monitoring; and prepare technical papers regarding studies involving environmental subjects.
• Provide technical assistance to the public, regulated community, and other interested groups regarding the application of appropriate regulations.
• Assist with collecting and analyzing environmental samples.

Key Qualifications

• Experience interpreting rules, regulations, policies, or procedures.
• Experience conducting inspections or investigations.
• Experience collecting environmental samples.
• Experience interacting with the public, media, and/or regulated community. To provide technical and/or non-technical information.
• Experience working with environmental issues, specifically air quality issues.

Required Education & Experience

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field.

Four years of full-time experience in the field of environmental activities directly related to the examples of work performed.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ San Angelo Regional Office.
