Job summary

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality in Austin is seeking an experienced Corrective Action Specialist to support the Petroleum Storage Tank/Dry Cleaner Remediation Program within the Remediation Division. You will manage remediation projects from site assessment through closure, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and program guidelines.

As part of TCEQ's Office of Waste, you would contribute to agency efforts to regulate the generation, treatment, storage, and disposal of various wastes and the cleanup of contaminated sites. See details about what we do.

This position is a member of our Petroleum Storage Tank/Dry Cleaner Remediation Program Section of the Remediation Division.

Here's What You'll Be Doing
  • Plan and coordinate all phases of routine to moderately complex project management at remediation projects including site assessment, risk assessment, corrective action, and site closure, for compliance with 30 Texas Administrative Code, agency policies, and Petroleum Storage Tank/Dry Cleaner Remediation Program (PST/DCRP) Section guidelines.
  • Evaluate routine to moderately complex work plan and technical submittals for adherence to regulations and/or specified contract requirements and quality control; drafts documents to address routine to moderately complex technical review and query and develop scopes of work for site investigations and corrective actions. Generate responses for remediation projects within established section timelines.
  • Maintain written and oral communication and track responses for remediation projects within established section timelines.
  • Respond to customer and interagency inquiries. Coordinate and communicate with internal staff, the regulated community, contractors/consultants, and other governmental entities.
Key Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in geology, geoscience, hydrogeology, or environmental geoscience.
Required Education & Experience

A bachelor's degree with a major in biology, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, earth science, geology, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Work Schedule

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Petroleum Storage Tank/Dry Cleaner Remediation Program Section of the Remediation Division.
