Job summary

The NYC Health Department’s Bureau of Tuberculosis Control is seeking Public Health Advisers to manage cases from report to completion of treatment. You will interview and educate patients, coordinate with medical providers, collect data, update the TB registry, conduct home visits, and participate in QA reviews.

You will also locate and test exposed individuals, supervise treatment adherence, and perform record reviews to ensure timely dispositions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in health education or health, social, or biological sciences.
• Experience in health promotion or disease intervention may be required.
• Phlebotomy training or HIV counseling may be required for certain assignments.

Responsibilities

• Interview and educate patients diagnosed with or undergoing medical evaluation for TB.
• Locate and test individuals exposed to TB to prevent spread.
• Conduct surveillance including administering diagnostic tests and transporting specimens.
• Conduct home visits to perform TB case management activities.
• Observe patients ingest prescribed medication.
• Make site visits to hospitals and private clinics to review records and extract data.
• Manage patients with presumptive or confirmed TB and contacts through treatment.
