Job summary

Polk County is seeking a Tax Specialist to provide courteous and accurate customer service in processing current, delinquent, ad valorem, and non-ad valorem tax payments. You will assist with changes to the tax roll and respond to inquiries in person, by phone, mail, or email, ensuring compliance with Florida statutes and county ordinances.

The role requires strong communication, problem solving, and the ability to manage multiple tasks under time pressure.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED and one year customer service experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good problem solving and data interpretation abilities.
• Ability to prepare reports and documents.
• Capable of researching data and applying math as needed.
• Demonstrates time management and reliability.
• Provides courteous, accurate customer service to the public.
• Able to manage multiple projects concurrently.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming calls across property tax, business tax, and tourist development tax.
• Process payments, applications, and refunds for Tax, BT, and TDT.
• Handle tax deeds, partial payments, and escrow-related tasks.
• Update addresses and perform roll maintenance for Tax, BT, and TDT.
• Respond to customer inquiries by mail, email, or in person.
• Assist in Service Centers and support in courier and mailing tasks.
