Job summary

Jackson County is seeking a part-time? or full-time? tax collection clerk to assist taxpayers with property tax issues in person or by phone. The role handles payments, prepares statements, deposits, and various license and billing tasks in a fast-paced environment.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and preferably one year of related government accounting experience. A clerical exam, background check, and drug screening are mandatory.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• At least one year of related government accounting or business experience preferred.
• Must pass a clerical examination.
• Background check and drug screen must be passed.

Responsibilities

• Assist taxpayers in person, by phone, or in writing with property tax matters.
• Process large volumes of paperwork in line with state deadlines.
• Process tax payments and prepare statements and receipts.
• Prepare deposit slips for pickup and handle returned checks.
• Maintain refunds, revenue deposits, sewer billing, licenses and mortgage billings.
• Post contract payments on delinquent land tax.
