The Tax Resolution Analyst will review tax notices for payroll clients, coordinate with federal/state agencies, and ensure compliance while resolving penalties and tracing roots of issues.

The role requires deep payroll tax knowledge, strong analytical skills, and experience negotiating with tax authorities. Remote work within the U.S.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of experience in payroll tax processing, payroll auditing, or agency tax resolution.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
• CPP or FPC certification preferred.
• Hands-on experience navigating IRS e‑services and state government tax portals.
• Strong attention to detail and clear communication for agency negotiations.

Responsibilities

• Review, investigate, and resolve tax notices issued to payroll clients by federal, state, and local tax agencies.
• Recalculate historical taxable wages, tax withholdings, and employer contributions to ensure proper compliance and accurate adjustments.
• Reconcile gross-to-net payroll data against tax filings to pinpoint discrepancies.
• Investigate and resolve tax notices, penalty assessments, and tracer letters from federal, state, and local jurisdictions.
• Communicate with tax agency representatives to discuss adjustments, secure abatements, and negotiate timelines.
• Perform root‑cause analysis on tax errors to prevent recurring notices.
• Maintain detailed documentation and audit trails for amendments and tax correspondence.
• Stay current on changing payroll tax legislation affecting amendments and filing guidelines.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
