The Department of Taxation in Reno is seeking two Tax Examiners to provide customer service, process registrations, filings, and resolve account issues for multiple tax types. They will review accounts for compliance with state statutes and respond to inquiries in person, by phone, and in writing.

Incumbents work with knowledge of Sales Tax, Use Tax, and Modified Business Tax, and may assist with e-services tasks such as linking accounts and registering businesses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with one year experience in bookkeeping, collections, or the interpretation and application of policies, regulations and/or legal requirements equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III or Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as stated above.
• One year experience as a Tax Examiner I in Nevada State service.

Responsabilités

• Process tax returns; examine data for accuracy; calculate tax, penalty and interest if applicable.
• Process applications for business licenses; verify completeness; input information into system; issue licenses or permits.
• Assist applicants and taxpayers with completing forms and submitting required documentation; provide information related to federal and State regulations and pertinent tax statute(s).
• Maintain files by updating data to reflect name and address changes and other information.
• Reconcile receipts, monies collected and related documents; prepare bank deposits and reports.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Under general supervision, incumbents perform the full range of duties described in the series concept.
