Distinct | North America in Fort Myers seeks a Tax professional to join a well-established CPA firm. The role focuses on managing a substantial US tax client portfolio, reviewing complex returns, and mentoring staff as a retiring Partner’s succession unfolds.
Two paths exist: advance from Tax Manager toward Partnership or join as a Tax Partner with an established client book, enabling a timely transition and continued client service growth.
What if your next move came with $1M in business already waiting for you?
I'm working closely with the President of a well established CPA firm in Fort Myers who is planning for the retirement of one of the firm's Tax Partners.
And rather than simply replacing someone when they leave, they're looking to bring the right person in now, giving them time to build relationships, understand the clients and gradually take ownership of an existing $1M book of business.
There are two ways this could work.
You might be an experienced Tax Manager or Senior Tax Manager who's ready for more. You've spent years looking after clients, reviewing returns, managing staff and keeping everything moving during busy season, but the route to Partner at your current firm is either unclear or feels a long way off.
Here, there's a genuine opportunity to accelerate that journey. You'll work alongside the retiring Partner, get to know their clients and gradually take on more responsibility as the transition progresses, with a clear intention of moving you into Partnership.
Alternatively, you might already be a Tax Partner who's looking for a new home. Somewhere you can step into an established client portfolio without having to spend the next few years building a book from scratch.
A little about the firm.
They're around 25 people, privately owned and have built a strong reputation in Fort Myers. They've got longstanding client relationships, an established team and a leadership group that's thinking carefully about the future of the business.
You’ll be joining a firm where you can make a genuine impact, have a voice in decisions and build relationships with clients who are already there.
The workload is sensible too. Busy season typically means around 55 hours per week through February and March, with some weeks in late April reaching closer to 60. Outside of that, things are considerably more manageable.
The firm is predominantly office based, particularly given the importance of building relationships with the team and transitioning the existing client portfolio.
Who would this suit?
Someone with a strong background in US public accounting tax who can confidently manage client relationships, review complex returns, advise business owners and lead a team.
You’ll need to be a CPA and comfortable taking responsibility for a substantial portfolio of clients.
But more than anything, they're looking for someone who wants to be part of the firm's future, whether that's stepping into Partnership for the first time or continuing your career as an established Partner.
The opportunity here isn't just a new title. It's the chance to take over something that's already been built, with the time and support to do it properly.
If you're a Tax Manager wondering how many more busy seasons you'll need to get through before Partnership becomes a reality, or an existing Partner looking for a change, I'd be happy to have a confidential conversation.
