Job summary

MacKai West, Center City Philadelphia, is seeking a Tax Manager to become a visible client-facing leader within a growing public accounting practice. You’ll manage engagements, review returns, and mentor junior staff while developing relationships with high net worth clients and local business owners.

This role offers mentorship from Partners, exposure to business development and practice growth, and a clear leadership track toward Director or Partner.

The Work

You'll manage a diverse portfolio of primarily local clients while overseeing engagements, reviewing returns, developing junior staff, and becoming increasingly involved in advisory and planning work.

The client base includes significant exposure to:

• High-Net-Worth Individuals / complex 1040s
• Partnerships and pass-through entities
• Privately held and small-to-midsize businesses
• Tax planning and advisory work

The firm values well-rounded tax professionals. They're less interested in someone who has spent their entire career doing one narrow type of return and more interested in someone who understands how the different pieces of a client's tax picture fit together.

What You'll Do

You'll manage tax engagements from planning through delivery; review complex individual, partnership, business, trust and estate returns; work directly with HNW individuals, business owners, and other local clients; identify tax planning opportunities; manage and mentor associates and seniors; collaborate directly with Partners on complex matters; participate in client meetings; and gradually develop experience in business development and bringing new relationships into the firm.

The goal isn't simply to make you a better Tax Manager.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate has:

• Strong public accounting tax experience
• Experience across a broad mix of 1040s, partnerships/pass-through entities, privately held businesses, and Trust & Estate
• Experience reviewing returns and managing engagements
• An interest in developing and mentoring junior professionals
• Strong communication skills and the personality to build genuine client relationships
• CPA completed or actively progressing toward completion
• An ambition to continue growing beyond the Manager level
