Job summary

Abacus! is offering a part-time, hourly internship in Springfield, MO and Fayetteville, AR to gain hands-on experience in tax preparation, accounting, and bookkeeping.

You’ll work with experienced professionals on individual and business returns, reconciliations, and client communication. Ideal candidates are current undergrads at the junior or senior level pursuing accounting, with strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in college at the Junior or Senior level, preferably pursuing Accounting or a related degree.
• Basic understanding of accounting principles, bookkeeping, and financial statements.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and time-management skills.
• Ability to handle confidential financial information professionally.
• Comfortable with spreadsheets and technology, with a willingness to learn new accounting and tax software.
• Eager to learn, take feedback, and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• No previous professional experience required; bookkeeping or tax preparation experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing individual and business tax returns by gathering and organizing financial information.
• Gain hands-on experience with bookkeeping, data-entry, account reconciliations, and financial documentation.
• Communicate with clients to gather tax documents and clarify financial information.
• Maintain accurate tax records and supporting documentation.
• Learn tax compliance requirements and how accounting information flows into tax preparation.
• Participate in training, shadow experienced tax professionals, and apply classroom knowledge to real-world client work.
