State of Wyoming is seeking a Tax Examiner to support the collection and monitoring of sales, use, lodging, and cigarette taxes for the State and its subdivisions. The role offers a comprehensive benefits package, flexible schedules, and meaningful work impacting Wyoming communities.

Essential duties include licensing vendors, reviewing returns, resolving vendor issues, handling complex refunds and audits, and preparing reports while maintaining tax databases and documents.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of GAAP principles and accounting standards.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and mainframe systems.
• Experience with interviewing and investigation techniques.
• Knowledge of methods used to determine liability.
• Basic mathematics skills for calculations and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Performs licensing and registration of vendors, contractors, and wholesalers.
• Reviews complex tax returns for accuracy and determines disposition based on status.
• Contacts vendors to discuss and resolve problems with vendor accounts, delinquencies, and filings.
• Processes complex refunds and conducts audits as assigned.
• Enters and adjusts audits from preliminary findings from the Department of Audit.
• Handles assessments on Jenkins Act information, tobacco orders and filings.
