Job summary

Maine Revenue Services Sales, Fuel & Special Tax Division is seeking an entry-level professional services trainee to work under supervision on tax assessment, administration, and compliance tasks. The role includes audits and capital asset appraisals for individuals and entities, with ongoing training to qualify for the Senior Revenue Agent role.

The 18-month trainee program progresses upon competency demonstrations, with telework available partially after 3 months subject to management

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in business, accounting, mathematics, information technology, finance, property appraisal, auditing, or taxes with experience demonstrating independent judgment.
• Knowledge of auditing and appraisal principles and procedures.
• Ability to use data to assess tax liability and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Examine capital assets and tax-related transactions to determine value and tax liabilities.
• Prepare audit reports communicating findings and adjustments.
• Analyze accounting systems to formulate audit tests and identify issues.
• Review prior audit results to identify audit candidates and issues.
