Job summary

State of Maine is seeking an entry-level Revenue Agent trainee in the Sales, Fuel & Special Tax Division, based in Augusta. The 18-month program trains you to assess capital assets, audit tax information, and communicate findings under supervision.

Position begins with on-site work, with partial telework options after three months and management approval. Strong computer and Excel skills are preferred, with potential reclassification to Senior Revenue Agent upon completion.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in business, accounting, or related field.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and discretion.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Examine capital assets and tax-related transactions to determine value and compliance.
  • Prepare audit reports communicating findings and adjustments.
  • Analyze accounting systems and identify irregularities and errors.
  • Interpret tax laws and apply them in audits.
  • Travel as required for in-state duties.
