Job summary

Aardvark Tax Advisors, the Cynch AI accounting and client services arm, is seeking a Tax Associate to prepare returns and build the technical foundation for a tax career. This hybrid role is based in our Cupertino, Pleasanton, or Santa Cruz offices, with additional opportunities in the North Bay, working with senior practitioners who review your work.

Qualifications

• 0–3 years in tax, accounting, or a related field.
• Working understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
• Proficiency in Excel and Word.
• Attention to detail and organization to manage several returns.
• Strong written and verbal communication with clients and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Prepare federal, state, and local returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and other entities.
• Gather and organize client financial information, notice when something is missing before it becomes a problem at review.
• Build workpapers, supporting schedules, and documentation that others can pick up and follow.
• Hit filing deadlines for returns and extensions. Deadlines are not a negotiation.
• Research federal, state, and local tax issues — regulations, open questions, and savings opportunities — and be able to show your source.
• Track changes in tax law and apply them to the engagements in front of you.
• Maintain client files and records to a standard that holds up under audit.
• Handle client questions on returns, notices, and general tax matters, and elevate what’s above your level rather than guessing.
• Collect what’s needed from clients to keep filings on schedule.
• Communicate professionally, protect confidentiality, and be someone clients are glad to hear from.
