Job summary

Wine Industry Expo in Charlottesville, VA is seeking a part-time, non-exempt Tasting Room Associate to deliver engaging wine tasting experiences and promote club memberships in a busy tasting room setting.

You will handle guest education, sales, and POS transactions while maintaining clean, organized spaces and collaborating with a small team. Weekend/holiday shifts are required.

• Process guest purchases through the POS system accurately.
• Execute daily opening and closing procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the tasting room and surrounding areas.
• Stock wine, retail items, and supplies as needed.
• Assist guests with carrying purchases when appropriate.
• Participate in staff training and wine education.
• Work collaboratively with team members and manage tasks independently.

Position Details

Title: Tasting Room Associate

Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Schedule: 8–24 hours per week

Typical Hours:

Shifts generally run 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. Weekend and holiday availability is required.

Compensation:

$14.00 per hour plus tips

Average earnings with tips: $18–$24 per hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Greet guests and provide engaging wine tasting experiences
• Educate guests about winery history, wines, and the winemaking process
• Promote and sell wine, Wine Club memberships, and winery events
• Respond knowledgeably to guest questions regarding wines and winery operations
• Process guest purchases through the POS system accurately
• Execute daily opening and closing procedures
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the tasting room, restrooms, patio, kitchen, and surrounding areas
• Stock wine, retail items, and supplies as needed
• Assist guests with carrying purchases when appropriate
• Participate in ongoing staff training and wine education
• Work collaboratively with team members while also managing tasks independently
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support winery operations

Qualifications and Requirements

• Must be 21 years of age or older
• Strong customer service and hospitality skills
• Ability to interact comfortably with guests of all levels of wine knowledge
• Interest in learning about wine and the wine industry
• Professional communication skills in person and on the phone
• Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment
• Positive attitude and passion for wine and hospitality
• Flexible schedule with availability on weekends and holidays

Physical Requirements

This position requires a high level of physical activity and the ability to perform the following:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, often for the duration of an entire shift (6–8 hours)
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly, including cases of wine
• Ability to bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions
• Ability to move safely throughout the tasting room, patio, and storage areas
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining excellent guest service

Additional Requirements

• Pre-employment background check required
• Must be able to comply with all ABC regulations regarding the service of alcohol

Pay: From $14.00 per hour
