Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) is seeking a Blaster for its Cleveland, Texas railcar repair shop. The role focuses on preparing railcar surfaces for inspection and coating by operating blasting equipment and removing contaminants to meet quality standards.

The position requires physical stamina, strict adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment with potential overtime and union-scheduled shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to read and understand safety rules, procedures, operating instructions, and work orders.
• Basic mathematical skills including fractions and percentages.
• Strong focus on safety, quality, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate shot blasting equipment with moderate supervision.
• Prepare railcar surfaces by removing rust, scale, and contaminants.
• Use air tools to remove grit and debris after blasting.
• Inspect railcars for damage after blasting operations.
• Level welds and grind spatter as required.
• Vacuum interiors to prepare surfaces for processing.
• Maintain blasting equipment and tools; monitor performance.
