Job summary

Union Tank Car Company (UTLX) is seeking production team members for our full‑service rail tank car repair shop in Cleveland, Texas. You will perform welding and mechanical repairs to tank cars, ensuring safety and quality in a physically demanding environment.

The role requires a High School Diploma or equivalent, the ability to pass welding tests, and reliable attendance. Experience with railcars and certifications are a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent or able to pass basic test.
• Must pass welding test as prescribed by the company.
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures, and assembly documents.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work any shift, including overtime as per union contract.
• Dependable attendance and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Welds components related to tank cars including tanks, bolsters, underframes, side sills, etc.
• Performs welded repairs using air arc cutting torch and stick or wire welding equipment.
• Uses hand tools to chip and grind welds, slag, or spatter.
• Repairs and reworks car parts using various hand and power tools.
• Performs welding and mechanical repairs to tank and hopper cars as required.
• Maintains a neat and safe work area and reports hazards.
