Job summary

Canal Barge Company in Sulphur, LA is seeking a Barge Readiness Technician responsible for pre- and post-cleaning inspections of tank barges. The role requires willingness to travel daily to local sites and perform detailed checks of hulls, safety systems and equipment.

The candidate will document findings, ensure regulatory compliance, and assist with minor maintenance on pumps, engines and heaters. A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of tank barges preferred but not required.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Reliable transportation.
• Able to pass background check and physical exam with respirator fit test.
• Clean shaven as part of PPE requirements.

Responsibilities

• Inspect barge hulls, documentation, cleanliness, safety systems, machinery and fittings.
• Conduct tank barge inspections including voids, pump engines, and equipment.
• Inspect barge fittings, vapor recovery, cargo tanks, valves and pumps.
• Travel daily to multiple local sites; travel expenses reimbursed.
• Perform minor maintenance on barge pumps, engines, boilers, and heaters.
• Follow safety, environmental and SMS procedures; be a lone worker when needed.
• Represent the company professionally to dock personnel and external parties.
