Job summary

Canal Barge Company seeks a Shore Tankerman for the New Orleans/Baton Rouge region to transfer liquid cargos aboard barges, adhering to safety and environmental protocols. The role requires on-call availability and ability to travel independently.

Responsibilities include barge inspections, minor maintenance, and acting as liaison with dock personnel while serving as a first-line emergency responder. A valid driver’s license and Merchant Mariner credentials are required.

Qualifications

• Must have safety-conscious mindset and ability to work in physically demanding environments.
• Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Able to pass background checks.
• Able to pass a physical including a respirator fit test and be clean shaven.
• Must live in the New Orleans area.

Responsibilities

• Conduct transfers of liquid cargos on barges.
• Follow safety, environmental, and barge procedures to ensure incident-free transfers.
• Inspect barges prior to transfers and perform minor maintenance on barges and pumps.
• Inspect safety and transfer equipment; perform repairs as needed.
• Serve as liaison with customer dock personnel and act as first-line emergency responder.
