Job summary

The Arc Carroll County is seeking a Direct Support Professional in its Community Living Department in Maryland. You will help individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities pursue fulfilling lives in a supportive residential setting.

Position offers a $2.00 weekend differential on top of $20.07/hour. Training in CPR/First Aid and certified medication technician work is provided. Locations include Taneytown and Westminster with evening and weekend shifts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license with minimal points.
• CPR/First Aid trainings and additional certifications required by agency.

Responsibilities

• Support residents with life skills in a small residential setting.
• Assist with meal planning, cooking, laundry, and light housekeeping.
• Administer medications as directed and provide transportation as needed.
• Work as part of a team in the Community Living Department to support individuals’ goals.

DSP RATE

$20.07/hr with a $2.00 differential for weekends

• Wednesday - Thursday 10p-8a (Taneytown)
• Thursday - Friday 10p-8a (Taneytown)
• Friday 3p-9p (Westminster)
• Saturday 3p-9p (Taneytown)
• Sunday 9a-1p (Westminster)

What does a DSP in Community Living do?

You will support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their individual pursuit of a fulfilling life by working as part of a team in a small residential home setting. You will support residents with life skills and household tasks such as meal planning and preparation, laundry, and light housework; as well as assist with personal care, administer medications, and provide transportation as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license with no more than 2 current points on record.
• Intermediate computer and keyboarding skills; ability to learn new systems quickly.
• Clean drug screen and criminal record (The Arc provides programs, services, and direct care to vulnerable adults).
• Completion of CPR, First Aid, Certified Medication Technician, and other trainings mandated by the Developmental Disabilities Administration and The Arc.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS (DSPs)

• Ability to lift/manipulate at least 50 pounds frequently with ability to lift, carry and/or exert force in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally.
• Ability to withstand prolonged periods of standing and frequent bending, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing required: Including lifting a wheelchair and repositioning an individual.
• Ability to transfer individual from a chair to vehicle, bed to chair. Ability to position individual on a sling or Royer lift. Ability to physically secure individual in a wheelchair to the van with tie-downs.
