Job summary

Evonik, a global specialty chemicals company, seeks a Plant Manager to lead production operations at its Lafayette, Indiana site. You will oversee manufacturing, safety, quality, and efficiency across multiple factories, aligning with quarterly and annual plans.

The role requires strong leadership, budget management, and deep knowledge of GMP practices; you’ll drive continuous improvement, optimize processes, and ensure reliable supply while meeting performance targets and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities, engineering, manufacturing or related technical discipline.
  • Experience developing strategic and operational plans in complex organizations.
  • Technical and operational expertise to assess facilities, infrastructure, processes and systems.
  • Knowledge of cGMP operations and pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage significant resources and budgets.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management, safety, quality and compliance.
  • Strategic problem solving and leadership to drive safety and performance.

Manages and directs directing all manufacturing activities a plant or production process, including production, materials, quality control, and manufacturing engineering, to produce products in the most cost-effective way, while meeting shipping requirements and sales commitments. Plant may be a stand‑alone facility or a relatively independent unit within a larger site.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a significant operational area for the organization.
  • Contribute to the development of annual and longer-term business plans; forecast performance against business key performance indicators; develop business cases for key activities/projects; and estimate the financial and human resources required to deliver performance targets.
  • Communicate the actions needed to implement the function's strategy and business plan within the team; explain the relationship to the broader organization's mission, vision and values; motivate people to commit to these and to doing extraordinary things to achieve local business goals.
  • Monitor and review performance against HS&E KPIs, and patterns of behavior within the area of responsibility; Take action improve performance and to resolve non-compliance with the organization's HS&E policies, procedures and mandatory instructions.
  • Develop monthly and annual production plans for multiple factories across the business with dependencies on other processes/units to include resource planning and monitoring and reporting on performance against the plan. Provide input to the overall production planning framework and systems.
  • Identify shortcomings in existing manufacturing processes, systems, and procedures; suggest and implement improvements; and develop and deliver larger improvement projects with guidance from senior colleagues.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with substantial general work experience and comprehensive job‑related experience in facilities, engineering, manufacturing, operations or a related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategic and operational plans within a complex organization, translating long-term objectives into annual priorities, resource plans and actionable deliverables.
  • Comprehensive technical and operational expertise with the ability to assess facilities, infrastructure, processes and systems; identify performance gaps; and develop solutions that improve capacity, reliability, safety, quality and efficiency.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cGMP operations and pharmaceutical manufacturing environments, including the ability to apply applicable standards, procedures and quality requirements to facility and operational decision‑making.
  • Proven ability to plan, organize, prioritize and manage significant resources and budgets, balancing short-, medium- and long-term priorities while delivering against aggressive timelines and business objectives.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management, safe systems of work, quality requirements and compliance, with the ability to integrate safety and quality considerations into operational planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated strategic problem-solving and continuous improvement capability, with the confidence to ask the right questions, identify root causes and implement solutions that eliminate inefficiencies.
  • Proven people leadership and organizational development skills, including the ability to lead through change, develop talent, build accountability and foster a culture of safety, quality, learning and performance.
