NiSource is seeking a T&D Project Engineer at Level 2, 3, or Senior to oversee electric T&D project portfolios, develop schedules, review deliverables, and drive continuous improvement through PDCA and lessons learned. This position is part of the T&D Project Engineer job family and may be filled at the Project Engineer Level 2, Project Engineer Level 3, or Senior Project Engineer level. The successful candidate will be selected and placed at the appropriate level based on their education, relevant experience, demonstrated knowledge and skills, and ability to meet the qualifications and responsibilities outlined below.
The Electric T&D Project Engineer supports the quality and successful delivery of the Electric T&D engineering project portfolio. This role develops long-term project deliverable schedules, coordinates reviews with internal and external engineers, and evaluates engineering deliverables for compliance with project scope, Standard Project Planning Packages (SP3s), standards, guides, and work processes. The Project Engineer also contributes to the Engineering Quality Management System (QMS) by incorporating lessons learned through the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle of continuous improvement.
Manage the project engineering plan using Project Management Institute (PMI) practices as defined within NIPSCO's Organization Project Management (OPM) framework, including key objectives, milestones, and deliverables. Monitor project performance and recommend or implement actions to meet scope, budget, schedule, and quality goals. Drive internal and external consultant quality by verifying deliverables conform to project scope, SP3s, work processes, checklists, guides, and standards. Review key project milestones, including 30%, 60%, 90%, and Issued for Construction (IFC) deliverables. Collect, analyze, and summarize project information and trends; recommend actions and prepare status reports for the Manager of Project Engineering. Complete engineering scorecards and organize performance feedback for engineers and engineering contractors. Support continuous improvement through lessons learned and the PDCA project life cycle. Verify that lessons learned, construction Requests for Information (RFIs), and SP3s are incorporated into engineering deliverables. Drive resolution of engineering RFIs throughout the project life cycle and facilitate project closeout to improve standards, work processes, and SP3s. Manage project stakeholders through effective communication, collaboration, conflict resolution, innovation, and value-based decision-making. Direct and manage the activities of external project engineering resources.
Performs the core responsibilities listed above with the guidance and oversight appropriate to the role.
Meets the expectations of Level 2 and develops and maintains the processes, tools, techniques, resources, and procedures used to manage the engineering project portfolio and support enterprise strategic objectives. Defines, creates, and applies quality deliverables supporting the QMS program for contractor and internal engineering work. Develops, reviews, and drives resolution of engineering RFIs throughout the project life cycle and incorporates lessons learned into project closeout and process improvements. Mentors Level 2 employees on project engineering methods and processes.
Meets the expectations of Level 3 and independently develops and manages the project engineering plan. Leads and implements engineering change management with minimal supervision. Serves as a lead trainer for Level 2 employees. Serves as a subject matter expert in Electric T&D Project Engineering.
