Jobtailor is seeking a senior systems engineer to lead multidisciplinary aerospace programs in Englewood, CO. You will drive requirements capture, system architecture, and compliance verification across mechanical, electrical, and software domains.

The role focuses on phase-gate product development, DO-178C/DO-254, MIL-STD-882E, and AS9100 standards, working closely with customers and certification teams to ensure on-time delivery and budget adherence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Electrical, Systems, or related engineering field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7–10 years’ related industry experience and/or training
  • Experience leading programs with a requirements-based culture and system engineering tools
  • Experience decomposing customer/marketing requirements into multidisciplinary engineering requirements
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-882E, DO-160/178C/254, ISO 9001/AS9100 and similar standards
  • Proficiency with SysML tools and CAD software

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Sales and Business Development to define and lead technical direction for programs
  • Lead requirements capture across mechanical and electrical teams
  • Interface with customers to architect subsystems and components
  • Define system interfaces and manage SysML documents
  • Support System Requirements Reviews and maintain project specifications
  • Develop technical quotes for Engineering Support Requests
  • Lead risk management including FMEA and FMECA
  • Verify methods of compliance and oversee testing activities
  • Coordinate with Certification and ODA teams for timely project closure
  • Serve as a technical leader without direct supervisory responsibilities
  • Travel >5% as required

Job description

  • Collaborate with Sales and Business Development to define, manage, and provide technical leadership to commercial or military projects
  • Lead airframe, subsystem, and component-level requirements capture, documentation, and management across mechanical and electrical engineering teams
  • Interface with customers during project/program initiation to architect subsystems and components
  • Define, document, and manage system and subsystem interface control documents and requirements in SysML
  • Collaborate with Project Engineering to facilitate System Requirements Reviews and maintain complete, accurate project specifications
  • Develop technical quotes supporting Engineering Support Requests and project requirements
  • Lead requirements decomposition, including 14 CFR and external customer requirements, to component and functional levels
  • Review compliance methodologies and verification plans
  • Review risk assessments and requirement prioritization; lead risk management including SHA, SSA, FMEA, and FMECA as needed
  • Support Project Engineering in maintaining projects within budget and schedule milestones and managing change requests
  • Identify specialized staffing and technical requirements and coordinate with engineering, certification, and ODA leaders
  • Verify engineering methods of compliance, including substantiation, analysis, and test design
  • Oversee and document testing activities and outcomes; assist with ODA and Manufacturing testing
  • Interface with suppliers, test houses, end users, management, and customers
  • Coordinate with Certification and ODA teams to ensure timely closure of STC projects
  • Serve as a technical leader and influence successful technical outcomes without direct supervisory responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Electrical, Systems, or related engineering field from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7–10 years’ related industry experience and/or training
  • Comprehensive experience working in a high aptitude engineering environment
  • Experience leading successful programs by creating a requirements-based culture utilizing system engineering tools and best practices
  • Experience decomposing customer/marketing requirements into multidisciplinary engineering requirements
  • Experience with analysis, design, and development in the aviation field preferred
  • Extensive experience working within a phase gate product design process
  • Demonstrated success with new clean-sheet product-to-production programs, including validation and verification for regulated industries
  • Experience with Safety Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes Effects Analysis, and standards including MIL-STD-882E, MIL-STD-1629A, IEC-60812, and AS13004
  • Familiarity with reliability analysis (MTBF), planning, and testing
  • Experience with relevant industry standards including DO-160, DO-254, DO-178C, IEEE 15288, SAE ARP 4754, ISO 9001/AS9100, and others listed in the posting
  • Delivery of difficult programs on schedule and budget

  • Experience with CAD software; SolidWorks/AutoCAD preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Proficiency with SysML software, including Eclipse with Papyrus SysML or Siemens Polarion
  • Required INCOSE Certified or Expert Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP or ESEP) certification
  • Willingness to work overtime as required
  • Regular attendance and role dependability
  • Travel greater than 5%
