Job summary

The University of Virginia Department of Computer Science is seeking a Systems Engineer II to join our team. The Systems Engineer will work independently or collaboratively on long‑term projects, designs, and maintenance of the existing computing environment and related services.

The candidate will provide helpdesk ticketing support to students, faculty, and staff in the CS department. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's degree and experience administering Linux in an enterprise deployment,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent with relevant IT experience.
• Experience administering enterprise Linux deployments.
• Familiarity with Windows and MacOS administrations.
• Proficiency in scripting and automation tooling.
• Ability to provide helpdesk support and user assistance.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing technical assistance to faculty, staff, and students.
• Resolve accounts, applications, files, networks, and other issues.
• Maintain and upgrade infrastructure services and software.
• Design configurations, workflows, and system integration procedures.
• Maintain technical documentation of deployed systems and services.
• Install and configure operating systems and apply security patches.
• Participate in test strategies and device/systems development.
• Collaborate within a team managing system administration and user support.
