Job summary

PRI Technology in Hartford, CT seeks a Systems Engineer for a contract-to-hire role with a hybrid on-prem/cloud environment. You will partner with engineering teams and vendors to build smarter, more resilient infrastructure across Azure, VMware/Hyper-V, and storage platforms.

The position requires hands-on IT operations experience, strong monitoring and automation skills, and the ability to support incidents, on-call rotations, and security controls. A 4-year degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of IT infrastructure including servers, networks, storage, cloud platforms, and enterprise apps.
• Proactively monitor performance, availability, and capacity; identify and resolve issues before impact.
• Respond to and troubleshoot infrastructure incidents across servers, networks, storage, and apps.
• Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours support for critical incidents.
• Assist in deployment, configuration, and maintenance across cloud (Azure/AWS) and on-prem environments.
• Automate tasks and workflows using scripting and infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Assist in backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity testing.
• Analyze logs, metrics, and alerts to identify root causes and improvements.
• Develop and enforce operational standards, policies, and best practices.
• Support identity and access management including user provisioning, authentication, and security controls.

I have a contract to hire opportunity for a Systems Engineer in Hartford, CT for one of our top tier investment banks. This Systems Engineering role will work across systems, cloud, networking, and automation, you'll partner closely with engineering teams and vendors to build smarter, more resilient infrastructure.

The position requires strong hands-on technical expertise and will work in a hybrid environment (Azure & on-prem)

$48-$50/hr

This is 4 days onsite, 1 day remote

** Responsibilities:**

• Support the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of IT infrastructure, including servers, networks, storage systems, cloud platforms, and enterprise applications.
• Proactively monitor system performance, availability, and capacity using enterprise monitoring tools; identify and resolve issues before they impact business operations.
• Respond to and troubleshoot infrastructure incidents, including server, network, storage, and application issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption.
• Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours support, responding to critical incidents, outages, and operational escalations as required.
• Assist in the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of infrastructure technologies across cloud (Azure/AWS) and on-prem environments.
• Automate operational tasks and workflows using scripting and infrastructure-as-code tools to improve efficiency, reliability, and scalability.
• Assist in backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity processes, including testing and validation.
• Analyze system logs, metrics, and alerts to identify root causes and recommend long-term improvements.
• Contribute to the development and enforcement of operational standards, policies, and best practices.
• Support identity and access management, including user provisioning, authentication systems, and security controls.

** Qualifications:**

• Hands-on experience supporting IT infrastructure in a complex, high-availability environment.
• Support and maintain identity and access management systems, including Active Directory, Azure AD, MFA, SSO, and privileged access controls.
• Strong knowledge of operating systems (VMware, Hyper-V) and virtualization technologies.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP (Azure preferred).
• Familiarity with infrastructure automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash, Terraform, or similar).
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Splunk, Datadog, Grafana, ELK, LogicMonitor).
• Experience with zero trust networking concepts and platforms, including Zscaler (ZIA/ZPA), secure access service edge (SASE), and modern network security architectures.
• Hands-on experience with enterprise storage platforms, including Dell APEX / Dell EMC storage solutions, along with a solid understanding of backup technologies, replication, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, routing, firewalls, VPNs).
• Experience with ITSM tools and processes (incident, problem, and change management; ITIL familiarity preferred).
• Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues across multiple layers of the technology stack.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and take ownership of operational responsibilities
• 4-year college degree preferred (Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field).
