Job summary

Talon Professional Services seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to manage and enhance enterprise infrastructure on a hybrid-cloud platform. The role spans Windows Server, VMware, and Azure, with a focus on high availability, security, and scalability across on-prem and cloud environments.

You will automate processes, develop standards, and troubleshoot complex issues while collaborating with diverse technical teams in a fast-paced environment that supports critical business operations.

Qualifications

• Experience managing Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022+).
• VMware vCenter/ESXi/vSphere clusters administration.
• PowerShell scripting for automation and config mgmt.
• Azure infrastructure services (VMs, VNets, storage, hybrid links).
• Experience with enterprise storage and backup (e.g., Pure, Exagrid, Veeam).
• Ability to lead complex infrastructure projects cross-functionally.

Overview:

As a key contributor, you will be responsible for engineering, automating, and maintaining enterprise-level Windows Server infrastructure across on-premises, VMware, and Azure environments. Your work will support high availability, security, and operational excellence, ensuring our client’s infrastructure remains scalable, secure, and aligned with evolving business needs. You will develop standards, automate processes, and lead troubleshooting efforts for complex technical issues, supporting a fast-paced retail environment that operates around the clock.

Required Skills:

• Extensive experience with Windows Server environments (Server 2016, 2019, 2022, or newer) in mission-critical settings
• Proficiency in VMware infrastructure including vCenter, ESXi, and vSphere clusters
• Strong scripting expertise with PowerShell for automation and configuration management
• Knowledge of Azure infrastructure services, including VMs, virtual networks, storage, and hybrid connectivity
• Hands-on experience with enterprise storage systems (e.g., Pure, Exagrid) and backup platforms such as Veeam Backup & Replication
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage complex infrastructure projects

Nice to Have Skills:

• Experience with cloud-native automation tools like Terraform, Bicep, Git, and Azure DevOps
• Familiarity with Active Directory, Entra ID, and related Microsoft identity platforms
• Knowledge of security controls and compliance standards such as SOX and PCI-DSS

Preferred Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in Computer Science, IT, or Engineering is a plus
• 7+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise Windows and infrastructure engineering roles

Other Requirements:

• Willingness to participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation for escalations and maintenance
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment, with onsite presence required four days a week at a location in central NJ.
