Job summary

Baltimore County Government's Office of Information Technology, Infrastructure is seeking a Systems Engineer to support enterprise data centers with 1000+ servers and 5000+ users. The role designs, implements, and sustains infrastructure, collaborates with business groups, and advances technology to improve processes.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in IT/CS/Engineering and 3–5 years of cloud, automation, security, and storage experience.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required in IT or related field.
3–5 years of relevant experience with cloud platforms, automation, and enterprise infrastructure.
Experience with backup/restore platforms and storage solutions.
Familiarity with monitoring, log aggregation, and alerting tools.
Experience with DR, HA architectures, and incident response.
Knowledge of IaC tools and configuration management.
Experience with IAM (Active Directory, Azure AD) and SSO/SAML.
Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
Security patching, vulnerability management, and system hardening basics.
Ability to document processes, runbooks, and standard operating procedures.

Responsibilities

Maintain health of enterprise data center infrastructure and perform preventive maintenance.
Plan upgrades, patching, and configurations to stay in supportable states.
Troubleshoot issues, perform root-cause analysis and implement fixes.
Define system health metrics and set up monitoring/alerting.
Participate in on-call rotation and provide 24/7 support as needed.
Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and SOPs.
Provide consultative input on new hardware and technologies.
Ensure security baselines, patch management, and configuration compliance.
