Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial or systems engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • Experience with ISO 15288 and MBSE methodologies.
  • Proficiency in MBSE tools and product lifecycle management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Apply systems thinking and model-based approaches to design and analyze complex systems.
  • Lead lifecycle activities: requirements, decomposition, interface management, and testing.
  • Develop and maintain system behavior models using MBSE within PLM frameworks.
  • Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies; participate in cost/feasibility analyses.
  • Prepare engineering docs and communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to quality assurance processes and cross-disciplinary integration.

Job Description

This role is responsible for executing rigorous systems engineering processes to support the design, integration, and management of complex nuclear systems throughout their lifecycles. Working within established model-based systems engineering frameworks, this position ensures all system components work together effectively and meet project requirements. The Systems Engineer focuses on verifying and validating product requirements according to the systems engineering lifecycle process while maintaining clear documentation of design decisions and system interfaces.

Tasks/Responsibilities
  • Apply systems thinking and take a holistic approach to solve problems, analyze and design systems, considering the interdependencies and interactions between various components.
  • Lead and manage systems engineering lifecycle efforts surrounding: Stakeholder and operational analysis, Requirement identification, decomposition, and management, Functional decomposition and modeling, Logical system architecture development and modeling, Physical product definition, interface management, and change control, Design integration and testing, System verification and validation, Concept of operations development and modeling.
  • Develop and maintain system behavior models using model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools within established Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) frameworks.
  • Lead the identification and monitoring of technical risks and the development of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support value engineering activities including cost analyses, economic feasibility assessments, and cost reduction opportunity identification.
  • Write and review engineering documentation, reports, and communicate technical details and project progress to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Execute systems engineering processes within X-energy's quality management framework.
  • Work across engineering disciplines to ensure effective integration of system components and subsystems.
  • Perform work in accordance with X-energy quality assurance procedures to ensure engineering products meet required standards.
  • Always maintain professional demeanor and behavior in all forms of communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager.

  • Lead the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document, without close supervision and complete latitude for independent judgement.
  • Provide feedback and guidance to more junior team members with the execution of the core tasks and responsibilities listed in the Job Profile Task/Responsibilities section of this document.
  • In collaboration with engineering leadership, set technical direction at the enterprise level through developing and owning technology or discipline specific roadmaps, best practices, and/or design criteria.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial and systems engineering, or other engineering related discipline from an ABET accredited institution required.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in the following areas:
    • System Lifecycle Processes (ISO 15288)
    • Operational & Stakeholder Analysis
    • Requirements Management
    • System Design & Interface Management
    • Design Integration & Testing
    • Verification & Validation
    • Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
    • Tools and Methods & Product Lifecycle Management Systems e.g. Teamcenter PLM, Cameo, Capella, Genesys, SysML, and DOORS
    • Systems modeling and simulation
    • Interface control and management
    • Configuration management and change control
    • Technical risk assessment and management
  • Level VI Level Minimum Qualifications Typically, twenty years of experience in an engineering role required.
  • A master’s degree in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of two years of experience.
  • A Ph.D. in engineering or related field (may include a combination of experience obtained through an academic institution, e.g., design projects, research, or design teams, as well as professional experience) may be in lieu of three years of experience.
  • Previous experience at X-energy exceeding performance standards may be in lieu of years of experience.
  • Experience with systems engineering software tools.

Location: 151 Lafayette Drive, Oak Ridge, TN 37830

Work Site Expectations: 5 days a week in office

Travel Expectations: up to 10% as needed

Hours: Standard office schedule are 8:00am-5:00pm ET, Mon-Fri

Compensation

As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.). Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them. Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions. Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives. Offers within the posted salary range are commensurate with the individual’s qualifications for the position, along with a view on internal equity, market data, and room for growth. The salary range for this position is: $188,750 -$212,500 Position Job Classification Full time - Exempt
