Senior Solutions & Systems Architect – Battery Energy Storage (BTM BESS)
Location: Plano, TX, with travel to customer sites, telecom sites, and commissioning events

Schedule: Full-time
Reports to: Senior Director, Engineering & Operations
About the Company
TKO StaffPros is recruiting for a client: a growth‑stage energy technology company headquartered in Plano, Texas. The company delivers behind‑the‑meter (BTM) battery energy storage, distributed energy resources (DER), and Energy‑as‑a‑Service (EaaS) solutions to telecom carriers, tower companies (TowerCos), critical infrastructure, and commercial & industrial (C&I) customers. It doesn't build batteries or inverters. It pairs leading battery systems, power conversion systems (PCS/inverters), metering, controls, and other distributed assets with its own EMS, SCADA, and optimization software. The team moves at startup speed, keeps the customer at the center, and has a strong bias for getting things done. They want people who are comfortable with ambiguity and who want to help build the whole company, not just one department.
The Role
You’ll be one of the company’s core technical leaders, working where product development, systems engineering, sales engineering, project delivery, and customer success meet. You’ll shape the technology roadmap and solve real customer problems in the field.
Some days you’ll be designing a telecom BESS architecture for a Tier 1 wireless carrier. Other days you’ll be chasing down a Modbus communications issue during commissioning, or helping product management decide what goes into the next EMS release. This isn’t a big-company architect job. It’s for someone who wants to build solutions, processes, products, and teams from the ground up.
What You’ll Do
Customer Solution Design
- Act as the lead technical authority on customer solutions, designing complete energy storage and backup power systems for telecom carriers, tower companies (e.g., American Tower, Crown Castle, SBA), data centers, critical infrastructure providers, C&I facilities, and Energy‑as‑a‑Service projects.
- Own site‑level system sizing, technology selection, battery and inverter evaluation, controls strategy, EMS optimization design, communications architecture, and utility interconnection requirements.
OEM & Product Integration
- Serve as technical owner for integrating battery OEMs (CATL, HiTHIUM, EVE, BYD, Fluence, LG Energy Solution) and PCS/inverter platforms (Sol‑Ark, SMA, Sungrow, Delta, Kehua, TMEIC).
- Define and validate communication maps, data models, EMS functions, control sequences, SCADA integration, and fleet telemetry.
- Build repeatable integrations that shorten deployment time and improve reliability in the field.
EMS & Controls Leadership
- Be the system‑level expert on the EMS and controls platform, covering peak shaving, demand‑charge reduction, generator optimization, backup power operation, demand response, solar‑plus‑storage controls, asset dispatch logic, and revenue‑stacking strategies.
- Turn customer and market needs into requirements for future product features.
Helping Build the Company
- Join customer presentations and help close strategic deals.
- Support conversations with investors and strategic partners.
- Set integration standards, build documentation processes, and write scalable technical playbooks.
- Mentor the systems engineers who join after you. Every senior technical leader is expected to build company capability, not just deliver projects.
Milestones
- First 6 months: Lead the technical work on key customer opportunities. Certify the integration of at least one new battery platform and one new PCS platform. Tighten deployment documentation and commissioning procedures, and help customer systems commission successfully.
- First 12 months: Put repeatable OEM integration frameworks in place. Cut field integration time by 25% or more and raise commissioning success rates. Become a trusted technical advisor to strategic customers and partners.
- First 24 months: Help build the next generation of the EMS and controls platform. Lead scalable architecture standards, help grow a technical solutions engineering team, and influence product strategy and roadmap.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Systems, or Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
- 7+ years in one or more of: battery energy storage, DER controls, microgrids, telecom power systems, SCADA, industrial automation, or utility‑scale/distributed energy
- Hands‑on experience integrating technologies from multiple vendors
- Strong understanding of communications architectures and control systems
- Customer‑facing technical experience
- Willingness to travel to customer facilities, telecom sites, and commissioning events
Strongly Preferred
- Telecom backup power systems or TowerCo infrastructure
- Hybrid generator + storage systems, solar‑plus‑storage projects, or utility interconnection
- EMS development, revenue‑stacking algorithms, or fleet management platforms
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
- Startup or high‑growth technology company experience
Technical Knowledge (several of the following)
- Communications: Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, CAN bus, MQTT, DNP3, SNMP, BACnet, REST APIs
- Energy systems: BESS architecture, PCS controls, smart metering, lithium‑ion batteries, generators, switchgear, microgrids, solar + storage
- Codes & standards: UL 9540, UL 9540A, UL 1741 SB, IEEE 1547, NFPA 855, NEC 706
You’ll Thrive Here If You…
- Think like an entrepreneur and take real ownership of results
- Make sound decisions without perfect information
- Enjoy hands‑on problem solving and can go from whiteboard design to field troubleshooting
- Balance technical excellence with commercial pragmatism, and put customer outcomes ahead of engineering perfection
- Want to help build a category‑leading energy platform
Why This Role
You’ll have a direct hand in the product, customers, strategy, and growth of the business. At a scaling BTM storage platform company this size, one person can meaningfully shape technology direction, customer adoption, and company value.
