Job summary

The University of North Dakota is seeking a part-time, non-benefited student assistant to help develop and administer the My UND App. You will manage content, test features, and support campus maps and resources, working both independently and with campus partners.

Ideal candidates are current UND students with strong problem-solving and communication skills, an interest in app development and mobile user experiences, and familiarity with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and REST APIs.

Job description

Salary/Position Classification
  • $17.00 hourly, Non-Exempt
  • 10 hours per week
  • 100% Remote Work Availability: No
  • Hybrid Work Availability (requires some time on campus): No
Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • This position supports the ongoing development and administration of the My UND App. Work may include managing app content, improving the user experience, testing features, researching mobile app best practices, supporting campus maps and wayfinding initiatives, and developing custom widgets/XModules and integrations as needed. The position works both independently and collaboratively with campus partners.
    • Add and maintain student organization content
    • Expand college and department content using existing templates
    • Improve the visual design, usability, and overall student experience
    • Support campus maps, wayfinding, and navigation initiatives
    • Test new features and gather user feedback
    • Research ideas and best practices from other university mobile apps
    • Assist with custom widgets/XModules and integrations, including weather, maps, campus resources, and other services
Required Competencies
  • Training will be provided for the My UND App platform and related tools.
  • Required experience does not necessarily need to be from a workplace environment.
  • Students in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Graphic Design, Communications, or related areas may be a good fit; however, a specific major is not required.
Minimum Requirements
  • Current University of North Dakota student
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in application development, mobile user experiences, or digital campus services
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
  • Experience with Node.js, REST APIs, JSON, or data integration concepts
  • Experience with Azure App Services, Azure Functions, or similar cloud services
  • Basic UI/UX knowledge or experience designing user interfaces
  • Experience with Canva, Figma, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar design tools
  • Experience with content management or creating digital and interactive content
  • Experience with mapping, GIS, Concept3D, ArcGIS, or similar platforms
  • Interest in student engagement, campus services, navigation, and wayfinding
