Purpose of Position

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position with work-study eligibility.

This position will be an integral member of the Chester Fritz Library (CFL) Outreach Team, which coordinates the CFL Gaming Space and creates events and programming to engage with current and potential library users; promotes services, spaces, and collections; and develops partnerships with other campus and community organizations. While the outreach activities include a broad audience of faculty, alumni, parents, K-12 schools, and the larger Grand Forks/Red River valley community, many of the events are targeted at supporting student success, engagement, and wellness. Successful candidates will be flexible and able to support all roles but based on experience and skills, some student assistants may spend more time on support for tabletop and video gaming, Tech & Tools, or outreach activities. Applicants are not required to be experienced gamers or event planners.

These positions will have four major activities: (1) planning and staffing CFL Outreach events, including during evenings and weekends; (2) providing student assistance and technical support in the new Gaming Space; (3) staffing the reception desk in the CFL Administrative Suite, and (4) helping develop marketing materials to promote student engagement.

The successful candidates will be creative, organized, effective at communication, and good at planning, while being comfortable initiating conversations with library users, creating and leading activities, and working on teams. They will engage in the full range of activities for executing outreach events, including creating and planning events; contacting student or community groups to partner on events; and coordinating on-campus programs, including set-up, clean-up, taking attendance, and assisting guests or presenters. A typical day in this role may include hosting a table to promote CFL at a campus event, working in the CFL Gaming Space (gaming expertise is not required), dropping off flyers at residence halls to promote library programs, or working (individually or with a team) to plan or setup a library event. Examples of student-focused events they would support include: CFL Finals Café, therapy dogs in CFL during Finals, high school tours of the library, Tiny Donuts, crafting events, and more. There will be opportunities to pitch and plan new outreach concepts.

Work schedule and work hours will be flexible, as needs vary by week and season; schedule and hours each week will be determined based on activity requirement and by mutual agreement between worker and supervisors. Summer hours may be available too.
