Experience with mainframe utilities such as TSO, ISPF, and SCLM is preferred.

Experience with mainframe CICS and/or assembler programming is preferred.

Required Skills and Abilities

Advanced knowledge of programming on an IBM z/OS mainframe, including but not limited to COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and SQL.

Knowledge of insurance and/or accounting applications.

Demonstrated ability to efficiently debug issues in existing systems and implement appropriate solutions.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan work effectively and manage time efficiently.

Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of staff and management, including clearly explaining system functionality and the rationale for changes in a concise manner, responding promptly to enquiries, and ensuring supervisors are included on business‑related communications as appropriate.

Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, including sharing knowledge, maintaining documentation, and assisting team members as needed.

Strong multitasking skills, with the ability to adjust priorities in response to regulatory requirements, production issues, and urgent business needs.

Experience integrating internal systems with purchased or third‑party software products.

Responsibilities of the Role

Responsibilities also include reviewing, documenting, and preparing detailed specifications for COBOL programmes to be replicated for future integrations.

Analyse and resolve issues within existing systems by efficiently researching production problems, identifying root causes, and presenting recommended solutions along with the impact of each option.

Develop clear, concise programme specifications for implementation by junior programmers.

Prepare test data and review, validate, and approve test results to ensure system changes meet requirements.

Research and determine the root cause of application issues, including identifying the source of failure, the number of impacted policies, and the underlying reason for the issue.

Create and maintain user documentation and computer operations documentation.

Provide guidance and support to other programmers and analysts by answering project‑related questions in a timely manner, explaining system functionality, and sharing relevant documentation.

Adhere to project management standards and processes as defined in the Project Workflow Guidelines.
