Overview

GovCIO is seeking a highly skilled System Administrator to support the management and maintenance of the Veterans Affairs IT infrastructure. This is a night shift role involving troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking issues, ensuring optimal performance and security, and executing scheduled maintenance and upgrades. The candidate will collaborate with stakeholders, government leadership, and engineering teams to design, maintain, and optimize server environments in line with customer needs. This position is fully remote.

Please note: The contract has been awarded; however, this position remains unfunded and is contingent upon funding release.

Responsibilities

  1. Proactively monitor system performance, diagnose issues, and implement solutions to enhance reliability and security.
  2. Ensure security compliance by overseeing access controls, backups, and firewall management.
  3. Administer network servers and technology tools, driving continuous improvement and scalability.
  4. Configure user accounts and workstations to support organizational productivity.
  5. Execute system upgrades, deploying new releases and tools to maintain cutting-edge technology standards.
  6. Maintain detailed internal documentation of system configurations and policies for clarity and operational excellence.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, engineering, or related field with 1-2 years of relevant experience, preferably in application support or development.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management tools.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and firewall configurations.
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

Clearance Required

  • Ability to obtain and maintain suitability/Public Trust clearance.
