The ideal candidate will have 6–9 years of SysAdmin experience, strong knowledge of Hyper-V, Windows Server, and security tooling, and will work with cross-functional teams to support mission-critical tolling applications.

Job description

TransCore (TRN), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a full-time Systems Administrator II to join our team in Houston, Texas.
Summary

The Systems Administrator II is responsible for the administration, maintenance, security, and operational support of the organization's server, workstation, network, and application infrastructure. This position provides day-to-day technical support for existing customer installations and new deployments of proprietary multi-server tolling applications while ensuring system availability, performance, and security. The Systems Administrator II works both independently and in coordination with the System Administration Team, Network Team, Application Teams, and Information Security Team to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues in a timely manner. This role serves as a key resource for vulnerability remediation, security maintenance, patch management, access administration, and system hardening activities across the system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and executes vulnerability remediation activities across server, workstation, network, and application environments in collaboration with system, network, and application administrators.
  • Partners with the Information Security team to identify, evaluate, and mitigate technology risks affecting systems, applications, and network infrastructure.
  • Administers user accounts, role-based access controls, privileged access, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and identity management systems in accordance with established security policies.
  • Supports the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of security controls, configurations, and technologies to protect organizational assets and data.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders, vendors, and the Information Security team on security initiatives, remediation efforts, audits, and incident response activities.
  • Assists with disaster recovery, business continuity, backup, and cyber resilience planning, testing, and recovery operations.
  • Quickly identifies and repairs common problems.
  • Evaluates interface between users, hardware and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall desktop system.
  • Daily system maintenance review, such as systems log, antivirus server logs, etc.
  • Provides monitoring and reports of the operational status of LAN/WAN environment as needed.
  • Interacts with vendors.
  • Installs and configures Server hardware.
  • Recommends the acquisition of new hardware and/or software as needed.
  • Execute remediation of vulnerabilities based on direction of Security Team
  • Research remediation options and assess potential system and operational impacts prior to implementation
  • Translating vulnerability findings into system-level fixes (patching, configuration changes, registry updates, etc.)
  • Executing and guiding remediation efforts across Windows systems, with support for Linux where applicable
  • Implementing and refining security configurations based on established baselines and INFOSEC guidance
  • Configure and maintain secure cipher suites and encryption standards
  • Ensure systems meet remediation timelines aligned with accreditation and compliance requirements
  • Provide detailed evidence and documentation for patching, hardening, and remediation activities
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Minimum associate degree from a two-year college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 6 to 9 years of Systems Administrator experience
  • Must be able to work well in a stressful situation such as an entire system malfunction.
  • Experience implementing and administrating failover clusters.
  • Experience implementing Hyper-V Virtual machines on a failover cluster.
  • Knowledge of Networking (understanding LAN/WAN, Cisco products)
  • Experience troubleshooting Windows Server (2012 or higher)
  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent preferred
  • File Transfer Protocol server experience
  • VPN knowledge
  • Understanding of Microsoft SQL database
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Dell server experience
  • Extensive working knowledge of computer operating systems
  • CrowdStrike Endpoint knowledge
  • Hyper-V Experience
  • WSUS Experience
Physical Demands/Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be seated for extended periods of time. Requires frequent use of keyboard and mouse, must be able to wear a headset for prolonged periods. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
