Job summary

Prairie View A&M University is seeking a Systems Administrator I to provide routine systems administration and technical support for faculty, staff, and instructional spaces within the Center For Information Technology Excellence.

You will maintain computing systems, support Apple and Dell hardware, manage user accounts, troubleshoot issues, assist with AV equipment, eSports facilities, and contribute to server, network, and cybersecurity initiatives, delivering reliable, secure IT services.

Qualifications

  • Experience providing Tier I/II IT support in an academic environment.
  • Experience configuring Apple and Dell hardware.
  • Familiarity with AV, eSports labs, and classroom technology.

The Systems Administrator I, under general direction/supervision, performs routine systems administration support functions and provides technical support and systems administration services for faculty, staff, administrators, and designated instructional spaces within the School of Public and Allied Health.

This position is responsible for maintaining computing systems, supporting Apple and Dell hardware, administering software and user accounts, troubleshooting technology issues, supporting audiovisual (AV) equipment, supporting eSports technology and facilities, and assisting with network, server, and cybersecurity initiatives. The incumbent serves as the primary technology resource for the School, ensuring reliable, secure, and efficient operation of computer systems, classroom technology, conference room equipment, eSports gaming systems, and related IT infrastructure. This role requires strong customer service skills and the ability to support various technology environments in an academic setting.

The salary is determined in accordance with the University's compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates' education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position.

Responsibilities:
End-User Technology Support:
  • Provide Tier I and Tier II technical support to faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, operating system, printer, and connectivity issues.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot desktop and laptop computers.
  • Create and maintain user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Assist with workstation deployment, upgrades, and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Provide support for remote and hybrid work technologies.
  • Maintain accurate records of service requests, resolutions, and technology inventory.
Apple and Dell Hardware Support:
  • Configure, deploy, and support Apple MacBook, iMac, Mac Mini, iPad, and iPhone devices.
  • Support Dell desktops, laptops, docking stations, monitors, and peripherals.
  • Assist with operating system installations, updates, and device management.
  • Coordinate warranty repairs and vendor-supported maintenance services.
  • Recommend replacement schedules and hardware standards.
Audio-Visual (AV) and Classroom Technology Support:
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot AV equipment in classrooms, conference rooms, and event spaces.
  • Support projectors, interactive displays, digital signage, video conferencing systems, microphones, speakers, cameras, and presentation technologies.
  • Provide technical support for meetings, webinars, training sessions, and special events.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance of AV systems.
  • Coordinate repair and replacement of AV equipment as needed.
eSports Support:
  • Provide technical support for eSports gaming systems, peripherals, streaming/broadcast equipment, and related software, ensuring reliable operation of eSports labs and competition spaces.
  • Assist with the setup, configuration, and troubleshooting of gaming hardware and networking to support practices, tournaments, and special eSports events.
Systems Administration and Infrastructure Support:
  • Install, upgrade, and configure server hardware and software; assist with the design and implementation of server systems.
  • Assist with installation and configuration of network file servers and hardware; complete server testing and application.
  • Conduct basic server performance analyses and tuning; monitor system performance to identify potential operational issues.
