System Support Specialist
Huntsville, AL 35808

Location: On-Site 24x7 Operations; occasional travel
Certification Requirement: Program specific, within 180 days of hire

Anakim Consulting Inc. has an opening for a System Support Specialist to support our work at the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville. This position will support day-to-day operation and ongoing support for network services.

Description:

• Support integrated communications services for secure voice, video, and data solutions
• Provide troubleshooting assistance and problem resolution for computer systems including personal computers, mini/mainframe computers, client-servers, Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and web pages.

Responsibilities include:

• Use a variety of network management and diagnostic tools for monitoring and troubleshooting communication-related problems
• Monitor and maintain Cisco Routers and Switches and Junipers Routers
• Support hardware
• Provide support for real-time network and dataflow issues
• Support testing and implementation of new network services

Basic Qualifications:

• U.S. citizenship
• Ability to obtain security access (Public Trust level)
• High School Diploma
• 4+ years of related experience
• Ability to support 24x7 operation environment and work non-standard work hours/shifts
• Availability to support occasional travel for training (primarily during first year of employment)
• Experience with UNIX server administration including RedHat LINUX platform
• Knowledge of TCP/IP technology
• Knowledge of IP Addressing and subnet masking
• Excellent writing and oral communications skills
• Hands-on experience with standard industry products eg. Cisco, Juniper, and Ciena
• Effective communicator and able to coordinate network and customer issues with other technical sections
• Ability to multi-task and respond quickly to real-time dataflow issues
• Knowledge of Network Monitoring tools, eg. NNMi, Spectrum, MRTG, CACTI
• Experience in supporting Wide Area Networking connectivity

Preferred Qualifications:

• Current CCNA, CCNP or JNCIA certification
• Knowledge of Linux
• Knowledge of normal trouble ticket processes
• Knowledge and hands-on experience with data analyzers, network probes and other network diagnostic and performance measurement devices
• Experience in performing traceroutes, executing ping tests
• Experience in WAN protocols such as SONET and MPLS
• Experience working with Commercial Carrier service providers such as AT&T, Verizon
• Knowledgeable of transmission principles including T1, T3, DS-3 & OC-3/48
• Knowledge of serial interfaces including RS232, V.35 and RS 449
