Job summary

Averro is seeking System Design Engineers for a nuclear client to craft first-of-its-kind reactor systems. You will own decisions from requirements through hardware delivery, coordinating across mechanical, instrumentation, civil, and nuclear disciplines.

Positions range from early to senior career levels, with 4–10+ years experience depending on role. This is long-term contract with extensions and potential for direct hire.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering or related field.
• 4–10+ years designing fluid, chemical process, or piping systems.
• Experience reading and developing P&IDs and multi-discipline design packages.
• Familiarity with ASME/NQA-1 or ISO 9001 is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Full system design from requirements to final design package.
• Supplier oversight and technical reviews with vendors.
• P&IDs, 3D models, and system interface drawings across disciplines.
• Apply design codes including ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, B31.3, and ASME BPVC.
• Coordinate thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, and heat transfer analyses.

Pay Range: $55.00 - $115.00/hr DOE & Location

*Compensation varies based on skills, experience, and location where candidate lives.

We are hiring multiple System Design Engineers for our nuclear client building a first-of-a-kind advanced reactor. The roles span early to senior career levels, with experience ranging from 4 to 10+ years depending on the role. This is a rare opportunity to shape systems that have never been built before. You will own technical decisions, direct suppliers, and see your design work go from requirements all the way through hardware delivery on a program that is defining what next-generation nuclear looks like.

What you will own:

• Full system design from requirements through final design package, including calculations, design reports, mechanical drawings, and engineering specifications
• Supplier oversight and technical reviews, working directly with vendors developing hardware and ensuring designs meet intent
• P&IDs, 3D models, and system interface drawings coordinated across mechanical, instrumentation, civil, and nuclear disciplines
• Application of design codes including ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA, B31.3, and ASME BPVC to complex system and regulatory requirements
• Coordination of thermal, seismic, structural, pipe stress, and heat transfer analyses and integration of results into plant design
• Testing program development and oversight for system qualification

What we are looking for:

• B.S. in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear Engineering, or related discipline and 4 to 10+ years designing fluid, chemical process, or piping systems, or fluid system components
• Experience reading and developing P&IDs and managing multi-discipline design packages
• Strong aptitude in fluid and structural analysis, tolerance analysis, and engineering drawing interpretation
• Supplier and contractor coordination experience
• Ability to lead a design team across competing objectives with minimal direction
• Experience with quality standards such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001 is desired
• High-temperature, multi-discipline integration experience is highly desired; sodium, nuclear chemical process, or cover gas system experience is a plus
• Travel requirements vary by role from 0 to 20%.
