Job summary

Grand Lake Health System is seeking a skilled IT professional to investigate, analyze, and resolve hardware and software issues across hospital computer systems. You will evaluate hardware, plan upgrades, and implement solutions to meet user needs.

You will collaborate with networking to ensure connectivity and security, document processes, and maintain system confidentiality. A strong background in server/desktop administration and virtualization is required.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Computer Technology is required.
  • 5-7 years of experience on computer systems similar to the current installed system.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Analytical and progressive critical thinking skills are a must.
  • Knowledge of server/desktop administration, virtualization, firewall technologies and VPNs.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates, analyzes, and resolves hardware and software problems on hospital computer systems.
  • Evaluates existing hardware and performs system upgrades based on needs.
  • Collects information to analyze and evaluate systems.
  • Designs and implements systems to meet user needs.
  • Prepares flow charts and diagrams of system capabilities and processes.
  • Researches and recommends hardware, software, and operating systems.
  • Monitors systems using available utilities.
  • Collaborates with networking staff to ensure connectivity between systems.
  • Writes and maintains system documentation.
  • Conducts research on system upgrades for feasibility, cost, and timing.
  • Maintains confidentiality of processed data and access control.
  • Documents problems and resolutions for future reference.

Job description

Hours of Job
  • Full Time - 1st Shift - Monday-Friday
  • Rotation in afterhours and weekend on-call
Duties and Key Responsibilities
  • Investigates, analyzes, and resolves hardware and associated software and communications problems on hospital computer systems. Performs complex hardware repairs and maintenance on a wide range of pc-based computers and peripherals.
  • Evaluates existing computer systems hardware and performs system upgrades based on customer needs.
  • Collect information to analyze and evaluate existing or proposed systems.
  • Assumes the responsibilities for the design and implementation of systems to meet user needs.
  • Prepares detailed flow charts and diagrams outlining systems capabilities and processes.
  • Research and recommend hardware, software, and operating systems.
  • Monitors the hardware and software systems using available systems utilities.
  • Select among authorized procedures and seek assistance when guidelines are inadequate, significant deviations are proposed, or when unanticipated problems arise.
  • Record and maintain hardware and software inventories, site and/or server licensing, and user access and security.
  • Work as a team member with other technical staff, such as networking to ensure connectivity and compatibility between systems.
  • Write and maintain system documentation.
  • Conduct technical research on system upgrades to determine feasibility, cost, time required, and compatibility with current system.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding the information being processed, stored, or accessed by the network.
  • Document system problems and resolutions for future reference.
Requirements
  • Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision.
  • Analytical and progressive critical thinking skills are a must.
  • Has working knowledge of computer networking concepts, including LAN/WAN architectures, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and network segmentation.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting network connectivity issues in multi-user environment.
  • Knowledge of server/desktop administration, and virtualization.
  • Knowledge of firewall technologies and VPNs.
  • Full range of body motion, including bending, squatting, standing/walking. Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 50 pounds.
Education/Certifications
  • Minimum of an Associate Degree in Computer Technology.
Experience
  • 5-7 years’ experience on computer system comparable to current installed system.
