Job summary

North Carolina A&T State University is seeking a System Administrator for Engineering Computing to maintain the College of Engineering's computing infrastructure, provide technical support for desktops, VDI, and IoT devices, and manage related servers and applications. System Administrator – Engineering Computing
Position Overview

The System Administrator for Engineering Computing plays a crucial role in maintaining the unique computing infrastructure within the College of Engineering. The role is responsible for providing technical support for desktop systems, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), IoT devices, and networking infrastructure. The System Administrator ensures reliable operation and efficient use of technology by faculty, staff, and students while maintaining documentation. Additionally, the role includes installing, testing, coding, debugging, and managing existing applications, servers, and infrastructure, working with stakeholders to implement solutions that support the College’s mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and troubleshoot desktop systems, VDI environments, and IoT equipment.
  • Support networking infrastructure and resolve connectivity issues.
  • Install, test, and manage applications and server environments.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and vendors to implement technology solutions.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a technical support role with Windows, Linux, and/or macOS.
  • Experience with IoT devices.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5 years of technical support experience in an academic or commercial setting.
  • Experience with software development lifecycles and project management.
Work Arrangement

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement consistent with university and state policies. Employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina within a two‑hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
