Summary: The literacy teacher is a specialist in all aspects of ELA instruction; reading, writing, and spelling. The literacy teacher provides high-level literacy support for members of the school community.

Major Responsibilities:

Organizing and implementing multisensory structured language instruction
Providing direct service for whole group, small group, and individual instruction based on student needs
Administering and interpreting educational assessments
Implement a range of effective strategies and reading interventions
Co-plan with classroom teacher
Organize and disseminate ELA resources to school staff
Collect and organize and analyze data, including measures such DIBELS for grade-level meetings
Implement lessons specific to Common Core Standards and share instructional strategies
Participate in grade-level meetings
Lead specified curriculum meetings, as well as lead discussions around literacy practices
Assist in the analysis of school-wide literacy strengths and weaknesses and formulate plans to improve student achievement in reading and teacher effectiveness
Create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the reading achievement of all students
Morning Duty: Includes active supervision of hallways and classrooms.
Afternoon Duty: Includes active supervision of the dismissal process.
Additional duties may be assigned without additional compensation or stipend

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Reading and/or Special Education (Required)
Master’s degree in Reading and/or Special Education preferred
Prior teaching experience, especially in the classroom
Project Read, Wilson, and/or Orton-Gilingham preferred
Background and experience in the administration and interpretation of educational assessments
Knowledge and understanding of Common Core State Standards
Excellent communication skills
Required license(s)/MTELs:
- DESE License: Reading All Levels and SEI Endorsement. Or
- Passing the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL), this includes a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills test and a passing score on the relevant subject matter knowledge test(s).
Two or more years of classroom teaching experience in urban setting preferred
