Boston Renaissance Charter Public School is seeking a Reading Specialist for the Lower School to lead multisensory literacy instruction, administer assessments, and support student reading, writing, and spelling across classrooms. The ideal candidate holds a Reading/Special Education degree with MA licensure (MTEL) and experience in urban settings, with a focus on evidence-based literacy interventions and family

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Reading and/or Special Education.
  • Master’s degree preferred in Reading and/or Special Education.
  • Licensed to teach per MA MTEL requirements and DESE license.
  • Two or more years of classroom teaching experience in urban settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Organize multisensory structured language instruction.
  • Provide direct service for whole group, small group, and individual instruction.
  • Administer and interpret educational assessments.
  • Implement reading interventions and literacy strategies.
  • Co-plan with classroom teachers and disseminate ELA resources.
  • Lead literacy curriculum discussions and grade‑level meetings.
  • Monitor and analyze literacy data to drive improvements.
  • Supervise morning and afternoon duties as assigned.

Summary: The Reading Specialist is a specialist in all aspects of ELA instruction; reading, writing, and spelling. The Reading Specialist provides high-level literacy support for members of the school community.

Major Responsibilities
  • Organizing and implementing multisensory structured language instruction,
  • Providing direct service for whole group, small group, and individual instruction based on student needs
  • Administering and interpreting educational assessments
  • Implement a range of effective strategies and reading interventions
  • Co-plan with classroom teacher,
  • Organize and disseminate ELA resources to school staff
  • Collect and organize and analyze data, including measures such DIBELS for grade-level meetings
  • Implement lessons specific to Common Core Standards and share instructional strategies
  • Participate in grade-level meetings
  • Lead specified curriculum meetings, as well as lead discussions around literacy practices
  • Assist in the analysis of school-wide literacy strengths and weaknesses and formulate plans to improve student achievement in reading and teacher effectiveness
  • Create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the reading achievement of all students
  • Morning Duty: Includes active supervision of hallways and classrooms.
  • Afternoon Duty: Includes active supervision of the dismissal process.
  • Additional duties may be assigned without additional compensation or stipend
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Reading and/or Special Education (Required)
  • Master’s degree in Reading and/or Special Education preferred
  • Prior teaching experience, especially in the classroom
  • Project Read, Wilson, and/or Orton-Gilingham preferred
  • Background and experience in the administration and interpretation of educational assessments
  • Knowledge and understanding of Common Core State Standards
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Required license(s)/MTELs:
  • DESE License: Reading All Levels and SEI Endorsement. Or
  • Passing the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL), this includes a passing score on the Communication and Literacy Skills test and a passing score on the relevant subject matter knowledge test(s).
  • Two or more years of classroom teaching experience in urban setting preferred
