Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking Part-Time Aides to assist with the supervision of students during non-instructional times before, during, and after the school day. Roles are part-time and capped at 3.75 hours per day, with duties focused on safety and orderly routines.

Aides may work in lunch/recess, study halls, detentions, and student entry/exit, while not replacing defined instructional staff. Qualifications include a high school degree or GED and the ability to follow written and oral

• One year of experience in supervising children in an organized setting is preferred.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and school/district policies.

Responsibilities

• Supervise students before, during, and after the school day during non-instructional activities.
• Monitor lunch/recess periods and study halls.
• Assist with student entry/exit and supervision in and around the school building.
• Respect and enforce behavior expectations and safety procedures.
• Ensure compliance with district policies and guidelines.

DUTIES OF PART-TIME AIDES

Some examples of duties that can be performed by Part-Time Aides include assisting with supervision of students:

• During lunch and/or recess period(s)
• During study halls (to only be held during non-instructional minutes)
• During in-school suspensions
• During student entry/exit
• In and around the school building

Part-Time Aides cannot take on the duties of other clearly defined school-based positions, including but not limited to teacher's assistants, instructional assistants, special education classroom assistants, children's welfare attendants, security guards or aides, clerks, etc.

Qualifications

Part-Time Aides must have the following qualifications:

• High school degree or GED equivalent (required)
• One year of experience in the supervision of children in an organized setting (preferred)
• Ability to work with and for school children
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions
• Ability to learn and follow school and district policies, procedures, and expectations.
