Qualifications

  • Understanding of spacesuit and thermal control systems development and operations.
  • Experience managing and leading engineering projects.
  • Experience with financial reporting, including budgeting, forecasting and cost estimating.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to interact with customers and management at all levels.
  • Ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines.
  • Ability to work independently and track tasks to completion.
  • Knowledge of mechanical design, drawings, materials, testing and office software.

Responsibilities

  • Perform project management for a spacesuit water membrane evaporator project.
  • Lead systems engineering, project engineering, test engineering and logistics engineering efforts.
  • Manage the project team and their activities.
  • Provide budgeting, forecasting and cost estimating support.
  • Monitor cost performance for the project against the plan.
  • Develop and maintain financial reports.
  • Develop and manage project schedule.
  • Oversee procedures, work instructions and process flows.
  • Manage project risks and opportunities and ensure a structured risk process.
  • Interface with NASA personnel and vendors and meet technical goals.

We have an exciting opportunity for a SWME Project Manager to join our JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.

If selected you will:
  • Perform project management for a spacesuit water membrane evaporator development project
  • Manage the overall efforts related to systems engineering, project engineering, test engineering and logistics engineering
  • Manage the project team and their activities
  • Provide budgeting, forecasting and cost estimating support
  • Monitor cost performance for the project against the established plan
  • Develop and maintain financial reports
  • Develop and manage project schedule
  • Oversee the development of procedures, work instructions and process flows
  • Manage project risks and opportunities and ensure that a structured risk and opportunity process is followed
  • Assess how program level changes impact project requirements and execution
  • Interface frequently with inter-organizational disciplines, NASA personnel, and vendors
  • Work with the lead systems engineer to meet technical and performance goals
  • Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Understanding of complex spacesuit, thermal control systems development and operations processes
  • Experience managing and leading engineering projects
  • Experience with financial reporting, including budgeting, forecasting and cost estimating
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to effectively interact with customers and management at all levels
  • Ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously and track tasks and issues to completion
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the field, such as mechanical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, environmental testing, and office software
Preferred Qualifications:
  • BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of fourteen (14) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and twelve (12) years of direct engineering experience, or Ph.D. degrees and nine (9) years direct engineering experience
  • Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures
  • Prior experience working in a system development project/program
