Job summary

Mclaurin Aerospace seeks a Surface Docking Spaceflight Hardware Systems Engineer to join the JETS II contract at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX. You will develop and verify requirements, support SRR/PDR/CDR, assess risks, and help define system interfaces across subsystems.

The role requires aEngineering degree with 2–5 years in aerospace systems engineering and strong communication. Qualifications include experience with NASA JSC flight hardware life cycle, requirements management

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 2–5 years of experience.
  • Experience with NASA JSC Flight Hardware Life Cycle and engineering processes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication across disciplines.
  • Knowledge of requirements management, verification & validation, risk analysis, and system analysis of space hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, review, and maintain requirements and verification plans.
  • Prepare materials for life cycle phasing: SRR, PDR, CDR.
  • Identify risks and develop risk statements with responses.
  • Perform system-level architecture trade studies and analyses.
  • Use DOORS, Cradle, or Jama for requirements management.
  • Create and manage project requirements and interfaces between subsystems.
  • Report status to the team lead and coordinate with NASA customers and contractors.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Surface Docking Spaceflight Hardware Systems Engineerto join our JETS II contract team at NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX.

If selected you will:
  • Be responsible for the planning, development, review, and maintenance of requirements and verification plans
  • Prepare materials for the system life cycle phasing, including SRR (System Readiness Review), Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR)
  • Work with team members to identify risks, develop risk statements, and to help them plan risk responses
  • Perform and review system level architecture trade studies and analyses that will influence the overall system design and performance
  • Utilize a requirements management software and systems engineering tool such as DOORS, Cradle or Jama
  • Create and manage requirements for various projects – including flow down from NASA Program to contractor Project through verification closeout as well as interface definition between subsystems
  • Work in a team environment and report to the team lead to provide status on progress and raise issues
  • Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors
  • Perform other tasks assigned
Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of 2- 5 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
  • Experience with NASA JSC Flight Hardware Life Cycle, Certification, and Engineering processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication across multiple disciplines
  • Knowledge and work experience in a Systems Engineering role in a NASA, DoD, or Aerospace environment
  • Experience with requirements management, verification and validation definition and execution, design trades, risk analysis, and system analysis of space hardware
  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings
  • Familiarity with SharePoint and Microsoft Office products
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures in the space hardware field, such as mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings, material selection, and design software and tools
  • Working knowledge of NASA, JSC, and ISS standard practices and requirements including safety, fault tolerance, and unique disciplines
  • Familiarity with NASA/JSC documentation databases and share point sites as well as typical systems engineering software products
  • Experience in technical or team leadership roles
